Coupang Announces $1.17 Billion Compensation Plan After Data Breach
South Korean e-commerce giant Coupang has pledged over $1.17 billion in vouchers to compensate customers affected by a recent data breach. The breach exposed customer names, email addresses, order histories, and home addresses, though payment and login details remained secure.
The compensation plan, set to begin in January 2026, will distribute vouchers worth approximately $34.87 per customer. These include credits for Coupang Eats, Rocket Delivery, and other platform services—a MOVE the company says aims to rebuild trust.
Interim CEO Harold Rogers emphasized corporate accountability, stating executives are "deeply reflecting" on the incident. The breach impacts 37.7 million current and former users, marking one of the largest consumer redress programs in Asian e-commerce history.
